Project: Rosetta St Greening

Suburb: West Croydon, South Australia

Mark is a Street Champion who is part of Rosetta Street Greening.

Rosetta Street is a focus of West Croydon and the inspiration for the name of our group “Rosetta Street Greening”. As a group of local resident volunteers, they’re all about making West Croydon an even nicer place to live, complementing the heritage and history with community gardening and artworks.

So, if you love West Croydon, appreciate the history of the area and want to be part of their vision, have an interest in gardening and enjoy the company and comradery of other like-minded locals, then they welcome you wholeheartedly to Rosetta Street Greening.”

“I can't begin to put into words how rewarding and beneficial this experience has been for everyone involved.”

Mark, what’s your best piece of advice for anyone embarking on an ‘In Our Street’ project?

“Don’t ever think the people within your own community aren’t ever interested in making a difference.  I cannot put enough emphasis on the point that communication on so many levels within your community is paramount to generating interest in local projects. Setting up a website, Facebook page and letter drops have all been integral components to the success of our group, now entering it’s 7th year.

Most importantly, always end your mornings volunteer work with morning tea.

This may sound irrelevant, but we cannot emphasise enough, just how important, sharing tea & coffee with a piece of cake, has influenced our group beyond all our expectations.”

What has this project meant to you?

Personally, I feel re-connected with our community. Our family has a far greater connection with our neighbours, local residents and council.

I can’t begin to put into words how rewarding and benefical this experience has been for everyone involved.”
