Set your clothes free is coming back in 2026. On Set your clothes free is coming back in 2026.
On 31 October, South Australians will be invited to donate their unwanted high-quality clothing, and recycle poor quality clothing and textiles.
Australians are the world’s biggest consumers of fashion, purchasing an average of 53 items of clothing per person each year – but a significant portion of those end up unworn or underused, buried in wardrobes and destined for landfill.
Set your clothes free focuses on collecting unwanted textiles and giving them a second life. High quality items collected will be donated to charity partners, and low-quality items will be recycled. This eases the burden placed on charity stores that can become overwhelmed with poor-quality donations that can’t be re-sold.
So dig into your closet and getting sorting!
The closest drop of point to PEC will be Beverley Recycling and Waste Centre, 2-4 Toogood Ave, Beverley SA 5009. Open 9 am to 3 pm, 31 October
For more info head to the Green Industries SA website

Nominations are now open for the 2027 Port Environ Nominations are now open for the 2027 Port Environment Centre Committee.
Are you passionate about our local environment and interested in helping shape the future of the Port Environment Centre?
With our AGM coming up on October 29th, the Port Environment Centre is seeking nominations from members interested in joining our Committee. This is an opportunity to contribute to the direction and governance of a local, community-led organisation working to protect and enhance our environment, support community action and build a more sustainable future.
We welcome people with a range of skills, experience and perspectives. You don’t need to be an environmental expert or have previous committee experience, enthusiasm, a willingness to contribute and an interest in our community are what matter most.
If you would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch for more information about the nomination process and committee responsibilities.
We are living through a time of profound climate a We are living through a time of profound climate and environmental change, with our communities facing uncertainty about the future. In the face of so many challenges, HOPE is not about ignoring what is happening but about finding the strength, connection and creativity to respond.
Come together to explore ways to 'Practise Hope', to build our HOPE muscle and ensure HOPE is alive and well in our communities. Join us on Wednesday evenings for a 4 week workshop series of listening, pondering and sharing and use the weeks in between to flex your HOPE muscles.
This series is based on a program offered by the On Being Project, an organisation dealing with global issues around social, environmental, and spiritual challenges.

We have been going out and exploring the Port Rive We have been going out and exploring the Port River at night by torchlight and finding an abundance of life along the pontoon and wharf walls. On our latest nocturnal adventure we spotted a porcupine fish, an ornate cow fish and a nudibranch!
These adventures provide an opportunity to connect to the river in a different way and have become a regular activity for us at PEC. And pose the question what does the Port River mean to us?
Check out the new blog post by Joe Zhang, a Social Work student on placement with us at PEC that explores the question: https://portenvironmentcentre.org.au/what-does-the-port-river-mean-to-us/
