Come and join Port Environment Centre for a Discovery Walk on Kaurna Country to North Haven dunes and beyond.
Discovery Walks are designed to connect you with nature and community and are offered by Port Environment Centre in 2022.
We invite you to join us on a coastal and urban adventure through North Haven and Outer Harbor.
This walk is approx. 4km over a 2 hour period and a moderate level of fitness is needed.
Initially we walk to North Haven Surf Club where we meet local volunteers from Friends of North Haven Dunes to learn more about their conservation work in and around the beach of North Haven. We then follow a trail towards Outer Harbor to Lady Ruthven Reserve and the entrance point of the Port River before following a shared walking path back to our start point.
Meeting spot: The carpark next to Sailmaster Tavern, Arcadia Court, North Haven.
Meeting time: please meet the group at 9.45am so we can be ready to start promptly at 10am
Walking surfaces include footpaths, soft sand, and grass.
What to wear/bring:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)
- Raincoat (if wet weather is forecast)
- Warm layers that can be added / removed for comfort
- Filled water bottle
- Snack/fruit
- Backpack or bag to carry loose items
- Personal items such as medications eg puffers
- Camera (optional)
Participants under the age of 18 years must have a registered ticket and be accompanied by an adult.
Cancellation: We reserve the right to cancel if the weather forecast predicts unsafe conditions for our leaders and the public eg severe weather or thunderstorms – we will notify you with as much notice as possible should this happen.

Attendee information may be used for follow up evaluation, in order to assess the longer term impacts of our events. Follow up contact may be made (in the form of a survey) but participation in any evaluation is optional.
